SCI in Feb: BOINC Workshop & Census, DeSci Denver, Webstore, and more
February has been a lot of administrative and networking work for The SCI. Much of our power as an organization comes from the wide network of talented people and connections we are able to draw upon, and we are blessed to have so many smart, forward-thinking people supporting us!
BOINC Census
We published the results of the BOINC census this month and presented them at the BOINC workshop. This is the first time since 2016 that any BOINC-wide survey has been conducted, and it will help steer future promotional efforts by The SCI and other parts of the BOINC ecosystem. You can see the results here. Want to dive into what they mean? See the BOINC Radio episode on YouTube.
Paypal donations
You have been asking about donating via PayPal and we finally have this setup, thank you for your patience while we navigated all the fun that is banking as a non-profit! For those of you able to donate via crypto, we will be in more Gitcoin rounds in the future, and that is the most effective way to donate (as your donations are matched by Gitcoin and you don’t have to pay capital gains on crypto donations). But we welcome donations in any format and appreciate your support whenever and however you want to give it. To donate via paypal, go to https://thesciencecommons.org/donate
SCI Webstore
We also finally launched the SCI Webstore (ships globally!), where you can buy merch branded with the SCI logo and the logos of your favourite BOINC projects! 50% of proceeds go to the project featured in the merch, the rest goes to our BOINC development fund. Special thanks to the projects for letting us use their logos!
BOINC Workshop & DeSci Denver
We gave three presentations at the BOINC workshop this year (international conference all about BOINC) on the SCI, Microgrid, and the BOINC census. We’ll be posting links to the recorded talks in our next newsletter.
We also sponsored DeSci denver and sent Jon to spread the word about SCI and find developers for our projects. We emhasized the importance of collaboration and having neutral, non-profit participants in the DeSci and Web3 space.
Thank you as always for your support, your ideas, and your hope. We will being you more exciting news in our March newsletter.
